The Equalizer project inspires Israeli youth to build a better society. The Equalizer project does this through education and football.
The Project emphasizes values such as mutual respect, tolerance and co-existence. In addition, the Project aims to enhance the awareness among Israeli youth around educational issues, living a healthy lifestyle and preventing violence. Groups of kids at various elementary schools in Israel meet 4 times a week with 2 of those meetings focusing on education and the other 2 on sport. Once a month the kids meet for a mini football tournament where they meet kids from different schools and cultural backgrounds and compete in a friendly space. The participation of each child in the football activities depends solely on their behavior, efforts and presence in school and on the educational encounters through the Program.

Co-existence at The Equalizer:
The encounter between kids from different backgrounds and with diverse religion beliefs is challenging and difficult. Football functions as a “bridge” between strangers and helps to develop communication among the players. The direct outcome of these encounters which includes hands shacking, sportive gestures, and enrichment activities is the ability of the kids to communicate, play and even become friends with those who were complete strangers or even enemies before they entered the Project. We believe that this outcome can only be achieved with personal encounters on a routine basis in which the kids find a common denominator regardless of their color, race or religion – football.
The key way to focus on this is through The Equalizer’s Green Card System. Kids get rewarded with a green card if they show sportsmanship over and above what is required and specifically in relation to members of the opposite team.
